Safer Internet Day 2025

Co-ordinated by the UK Safer Internet CentreTuesday 11th February 2025

Safer Internet Day is a perfect opportunity to talk about the importance of online safety and particularly important to speak to our children and younger people about remaining vigilant and protecting each other from scams and vulnerabilities of being in an ever more digital world. We know that scams are on the increase in the UK and sadly, many of these are now cleverly targeting the younger generation – from online bullying, misinformation and social media scams – there are so many opportunities for our younger people to be targeted.

Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online

As a general rule – if something appear too good to be true, then in generally is. This year, the UK Safer Internet Centre (UKSIC) who co-ordinate Safer Internet Day, is especially focused on online scams and their website saferinternet.org.uk provides a huge number of resources to support you and protecting yourself against online scams. From information for businesses such as BeeBu, to information for parents and schools there is a wealth of information and guidance available from the Safer Internet website.

Talk about your experiences

Safer Internet Day encourages young people to talk about their experiences and share ideas on how to tackle the growing challenges of keeping younger people safe online. SAIC is also educating regarding Generative AI, what the government and industry are doing to tackle threats and exploring what young people would like to see to help protect themselves too.

Getting involved

Thousands of organisations are involved with Safer Internet Day this year including online live lessons being hosted by the BBC, and BeeBu are encouraged to see such great work going on across the internet industry to promote the safe, responsible and positive use of the digital world for all children and young people.

About Safer Internet Day

Over the years, Safer Internet Day has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 170 countries worldwide.
